  • “Hollywood always wanted me to be pretty but I fought for realism.” Bette Davis.

This drawing is taken from a publicity still for a film starring Jane Greer. She is enacting the part of a woman under the influence of alcohol. I was drawn to the image for its over-dramatisation, seeped in glamorous misery, her face pours itself into the glass as the drink pours into her face. Even though the scene is stark and unreal it’s strangely relatable in its dishevelled, lonely sorrow. The polished steel frame echoes the cold, hard table and sterileness of the scene. I guess I’ve always fought for realism too (both in life and technically!).
