THE GUIDING THREAD
GALERIE SUZANNE TARASIEVE | PARIS, 2025
11 January - 8 March 2025
Galerie Suzanne Taraseive
7 Rue Pastourelle
75003 Paris
The Guiding Thread is a celebration of friendship, admiration, and transmission that forms the fabric of artistic communities. Each gallery artist has been invited to select a work by another artist to be exhibited, creating an opportunity for visitors to explore the connections between their work.
The exhibition is also a tribute to Suzanne Tarasieve, whose commitment to sharing, generosity, and openness shaped her vision and legacy. Opening just days after the anniversary of her passing on December 27, 2022, The Guiding Thread honours her enduring influence and the connections she fostered within the art world.
The word transmission has many different inferences for me. For instance, it could mean channelling, broadcasting, spreading or carrying but on this occasion, for me, it is about imparting. Bestowing something positive you have to offer upon someone you love.
I put much thought into this exhibition and who to invite. It feels incredibly important to do Suzanne justice and ‘transmit’ the opportunity to someone who I have total belief in - as she did for me. The artist I can wholeheartedly get behind is Craig Wylie. Yes, he is my husband and father to our two children but he also happens to be the best artist I know. I admire his ability to paint with enduring awe. I hope my choice won’t be seen as nepotistic or opportunistic, because it is the opposite, it is genuine and I am extremely proud to present his work to the gallery’s audience.
The drawing I made especially for the exhibition is from an image of Helmut Berger embracing an ‘unknown guest’ at a party in Le Palace nightclub, Paris c.1978. The image seemed particularly pertinent for this group show both for its theme and its location (and of course my deep passion for Mr Berger). The handmade frame adds a further hug to this intimate yet celebratory exchange.
